This July I will be hosting an Abstract Landscapes class as part of the Jelly Summer School on Saturday 23 July from 10am until 4.30pm. It is part of a two day course on 23rd and 30th July including 4 artist-led workshops.
There will be two workshops per day covering processes such as printmaking without a press, watercolour painting, ink drawing and collage, which will guide you through topics including portrait, drawing, illustration and abstraction. You will be shown different techniques and will be able to then explore the methods yourself by producing your own pieces of work in this enjoyable and friendly course.
Both days will kick off with a session run by Artist Linda Newcombe, followed by Illustrator Helen Ridley joining as a guest artist on Saturday 23rd July.
Schedule:
Saturday 23 July includes printmaking without a press with printmaker and artist Linda Newcombe followed by watercolour landscape painting with guest artist and illustrator Helen Ridley. The first day will begin with demonstrations of monoprinting using gel plates and found materials, moving on to incorporate stencils and textures. After lunch (bring your own packed lunch) you'll be introduced to Helen's lively illustration techniques and gently taken on an enjoyable watercolour journey using aspects of the landscape for inspiration. Materials will be supplied by the artists, but please bring an overall for the printmaking and your favourite watercolour brushes and paper if you want to step it up a notch.
Saturday 30 July starts with a morning workshop with artist and illustrator Linda Newcombe who will be working with black ink and 'chiarroscuro' effects in painting and printmaking. After lunch (bring your own packed lunch), you'll be introduced to guest artist Caroline Streatfield. With her recent Oxford Road community portrait project behind her, Caroline will be bringing her expertise and experience to the Summer School to deliver a session on the creative possibilities of portraits in collage. All materials and inspiration supplied by the artists, but you are welcome to bring your own portrait photo to work from (preferably A3, heads and shoulders).
The Summer School runs on the 23rd and 30th of July from 10am until 4.30, breaking for coffee and lunch. Bring a packed lunch to eat in the studios and get to know the rest of the group during breaks.
Materials will be supplied by the artists with a suggested donation of £2 per day.
The 2 day course ticket price is £100. Individual days are £60 each. Spaces are limited. Choose 23rd July to buy your weekend ticket at checkout.
